Back on a semi-cold day in autumn; when summer was not really gone yet; a small, cozy place was opening its eyes for the first time: Escosazio Juice & Organic Food. It was October, 2015. The creators; Gianluca Di Paolantonio, Luca Guerrieri, Enrico and Valeriano Cristini; after travelling to the most tropical places in the world, decided to propose what they had seen and savoured during those free joyous moments to a city where these healthy peculiarities were missing: Rome.
Everything Escosazio serves has a pure healthy purpose. What is most impressive is how inventive, original, and fresh their fruit combinations are.
When you are trying to decide what to order you will face a variety of products that will fascinate you, and leave you hesitant in front of such a full menu. The smoothies are prepared with the most exotic fruits: papaya, maracuja, mango, goiaba, graviola, cocco verde, and acerola; fruits that you would not usually find in Rome or in many European cities. Now that the weather is getting warmer (or better put, simply hot), try their fresh macedonia, which can be combined with yogurt and grain. When you have just a few moments for lunch before going back to work, try the “airy tales” salads: Gatto con gli Stivali, Pinocchio, or Mille e una Notte; or, try the locale’s ‘Sanpietrini’: gourmet sandwiches with Rome’s areas names. If you are feeling a little more adventurous, then you will have to try the amazing “açaì na tigela”, a brazilian berry that can be found only in the Amazonia. Escosazio’s recipe, though, is a little more interesting than a “simple” berry; in fact, that berry is combined with bananas, guarana, and strawberries, creating a concentrated mix of energy. Lastly, for those of us who are sushi lovers and just cannot get enough, you will find something close to the Holy Grail of sushi: something that has never before been seen in any Japanese restaurant: the Frushi! A combination of sweet rice, coconut, and fresh fruit chosen and mixed as creatively as it can be.
The setting has a strong bio and retro feeling that came naturally when having a warm, cozy, and green environment were a focus. This feeling is also due thanks to the accurate help of the architect that followed them in their other restaurant Escopazzo. The special feature I found most appealing was the swings sets as chairs, recalling a place outdoors. The fruits and vegetables are exposed in order to emanate the fresh scents and the bright colours.
“Come fosse un chiosco da spiaggia.”
If you really have no time to eat during lunch, do not hesitate to call and ask them to deliver anything you fancy, both at work and at home. Delivery is a feature that has been associated with the location since opening; together with the idea that everything would have originally been “on the go”. The service is rigorously eco and in line with the beliefs of the locale; in fact, every order you make will be delivered by bike, which has also become the business’s signature.
The days are getting warmer by the second. Do not miss the chance to freshen up with some exotic and delicious fruit combinations from a location in the fascinating, historic center of Rome.
