Think of happy hour in Italy and the image that likely comes to mind is of sitting lazily at an Italian bar in front of a beautiful historic square with a glass of wine. Think of the fall harvest in Italy, and you’ll probably imagine the grape harvest to start the year’s wine production. While Italy is rightfully known for its wine, what then is a beer lover to do?

Fortunately for them, along with its excellent wines Italy is fast becoming a leading producer in artisanal beers! In fact, this weekend beer lovers in Rome will be swarming to Eataly’s ninth annual Festa della Birra Artigianale!

This year’s theme focuses on agricultural breweries: a specialty method born in the 90s, characterized by being produced and bottled in the same way as barley, giving uniformity to the entire production chain. There will be discussions, tastings, meetings with the brewers themselves, and of course the agricultural beers will be accompanied by high-quality Italian street food specialties. Everything will be enriched by demonstrations, live music and much more, all out in the open; the perfect way to spend this sunny and warm fall weekend in Rome!

About Charis McCullough

Charis decided to move to Italy six years ago after an incredible three month visit to the beautiful and untouched region of Abruzzo changed her vision of the world. She fell in love with the Italian culture, the language, history, art, and especially the food, wine, and coffee, and after getting a fine arts degree from Rome's Accademia di Belle Arti, she never looked back. She now works as a translator and social media manager for a wedding planner as well as a freelance painter, writer, and guide, introducing visitors to the authentic side of this beautiful country that she so loves, a side that makes them too want to move here to live la bella vita and never go back.
