The Rome Hello

Staying in hostels in Rome isn’t just about saving money. It’s also about experiencing unique accommodations and connecting with other travelers. The good news is since Rome is such a hotspot for tourism, there’s no shortage of hostels to consider during your trip to Italy. The not-so-great news is it can be difficult to determine which ones boast the “wow factor” that will make you want to tell your friends about your amazing experience. Hostels in Rome that pay attention to the little details, employ friendly staff and are centrally located can elevate the overnight experience for travelers and make for an overall better holiday.

Since accommodations can make or break a holiday, booking a hostel in Rome shouldn’t be left up to chance. Here are four amazing hostels in Rome you’ll want to tell your friends about (and of course book more nights!):

The Rome Hello

You know when you’ve landed in a new city and want to hit the bar but don’t know where to go. That won’t be a problem if you stay at The Rome Hello along Via Torino in central Rome. That’s because this hostel has The Barrel Bar and Grill located right next-door. As for the hostel itself, The Rome Hello is an interesting combination of the quirky, artsy vibe common to hostels, mixed with the cleanliness and attention to detail most hotels practice.

Private rooms, mixed dorms, and female-only dorms are available at The Rome Hello. Like most hostels, the dorms house bunk beds. Each bed comes with USB chargers, an individual lamp, a personal shelf, and an electrical outlet. Each room has air conditioning, heating and free Wi-Fi. One of the hostel’s best features is its outdoor courtyard, which comes with ample seating and a Ping-Pong table.

The Yellow Hostel

Located about 3 km from the Coliseum and the Piazza Navona, The Yellow Hostel is all about entertainment. With its live music, resident DJ, and karaoke nights, this is definitely a hostel for young travelers looking for a good party. Mixed and female-only dorm rooms are available. Some rooms have an en-suite bathroom while others do not. There is also a double-twin room if you are already arriving with a travel buddy.

The Yellow Hostel is also a prime place to book day tours in Rome. They offer various day tours and classes, perfect for exploring Rome by day then dancing and partying the night away. Their friendly staff can also point you in the right direction if you need to find a co-working space, hair salon, bike rentals, and more.

The Beehive

While the first two hostels on this list are geared towards young travelers who like to party, The Beehive is a bit more laid back and tranquil. In fact, the owners want to make it clear The Beehive is not a party hostel and rather a place to go to connect with other travelers, relax, and recharge. Located about 20 minutes on foot from the Coliseum and Trevi Fountain, it’s also situated in an accessible area of Rome.

The Beehive offers mixed dorms, female-only dorms, and private rooms. Private rooms come with a safe, an en-suite bathroom or sink and either air conditioning or a ceiling fan. The hostel café serves vegetarian, family-style meals. They even serve homemade bread, cakes, and free-trade coffee. Hostel activities include their popular storytellers event, where an English-speaking storyteller visits The Beehive every month and weaves interesting tales. Other activities include yoga, pasta making classes, and movie nights.

The Blue Hostel

With its private rooms, double beds, and complimentary toiletries, the Blue Hostel seems more like a hotel than a hostel. It’s definitely not a party hostel and is suited best for couples or solo travelers in search of a peaceful stay.

While being refurbished in 2012, workers discovered (and retained) the original timber ceiling that was built in 1804, which gives an authentic charm unique to this hostel. Each room comes with free Wi-Fi, a small flat-screen TV, an en-suite bathroom and shower, hair dryer, and minibar. A towel is also offered to each guest free of charge. The suite is best suited for families or small groups because it features a large double bed and a pullout sofa bed in the living room, along with a kitchen and bathroom. So even if you are shelling out more euros for a suite, it can easily be shared by up to four people and the kitchen makes cooking meals easy. The Blue Hostel is located about 5 km from the Vatican and St. Peter’s Basilica.
